Matched like for like in capacity, both the Givenergy All In One, and Tesla Powerwall offer the largest single unit home battery with 13.5kWh of storage. Including an integrated AC Coupled inverter, making them both the perfect all in one solution for retrofitting.
Both battery solutions, also come with a backup Gateway so that home owners can keep their home operating during grid outages. The Tesla app currently has a rating of 3.5 stars from almost 35,000 reviews across the App Store and Google Play. Through the Tesla app, you can access data not only from your Tesla Powerwall 2 but for your Tesla Vehicle also, which is great if you want to keep a coherent ecosystem at home.
The Tesla app is extremely user friendly, and presents detailed real-time data in an easy to understand way. If you are a non-tech savvy user, the Powerwall offers the perfect solution, thanks to its set and forget nature due to it’s integrated AI driven software. There are very few configuration options, which some users may find limiting, whereas others may enjoy the apps self-management.

Scalability
With Tesla Powerwall homeowners can benefit from up to 135kWh of home storage, due to it’s scalability. With the option to connect up to 10 Tesla Powerwalls, you can scale your energy storage capacity as your energy needs grow. In comparison, the Givenergy All-In-One battery only allows you to connect up to 6 systems in parallel, providing 80kWh of useable energy storage, and this function is not available as of yet.

Product Maturity
The first generation Tesla Powerwall was introduced in April 2015 with limited production. Mass production started in early 2017 after the release of the Tesla Powerwall 2.0, a more revolutionised version of the initial Tesla battery. As of May 2021, Tesla has installed more than 200,000 Powerwall batteries. With over 7 years in the market, it is safe to say that the Powerwall is a refined mature battery storage option. With regular software and firmware updates, the Tesla Powerwall is a polished product, with a next-generation Powerwall 3 even rumoured for mid 2024.
Whilst Givenergy have been manufacturing batteries since 2018, the Givenergy All In One is not quite as established on the market, having been only released in June 2023 and only the first version of the product. With only a couple of months on the market, feedback from customers and installers in limited.

Thermal Management
A Key strength of the Tesla Powerwall over the Givenergy All-In-One is its Thermal Management.
When temperatures drop in the winter, all batteries have a reduced ability to charge. However, thanks to Tesla Powerwall’s integrated liquid heating and cooling systems, this will no longer be a worry. Tesla’s Thermal Management aims to help improve performance during the colder months, which is a great feature for those looking to have their battery installed outside or in a garage. The Tesla Powerwall draws upon a small amount of energy to preheat itself, to allow for high-power charging. This is an automatic feature, for which a small amount of the Powerwall’s capacity is reserved for.
Whilst the Givenergy All-In-One battery does have a BMS Thermal management, it has no way to regulate the temperatures of the battery when the external temperature rises or falls, unlike the Tesla Powerwall.

Price
The Givenergy All In One Battery has been marketed as the “ultimate home battery, at an accessible price”, as the battery aims to challenge Tesla Powerwall in both performance and affordability. Whereas the Tesla Powerwall is limited to only a select few wholesalers in the UK, the Givenergy battery storage can be found at a competitive wholesale price, thanks to a great range of vendors.
At Deege Solar, we install the Tesla Powerwall starting from £7995 Inc. VAT. and the Givenergy all in One from £7300 Inc. VAT. However this price difference doesn’t take into account the new Tesla rebate programme, and the price of the 3 required maintenance checks from Givenergy. The new Tesla rebate programme, allows homeowners to claim a £350 rebate on new battery installations between August 11th and December 31st 2023. Whilst, the Givenergy battery requires 3 maintenance checks in order to maintain warranty, which are charged by Givenergy at £29 +VAT each, and £100 + VAT per any engineer visits required.
This reduces the price difference between the Givenergy and Tesla battery to a mere £250, still giving the givenergy battery a slight edge.

Works With Octopus Energy
Givenergy are one of the few brands, whose batteries have been given the “Works with Octopus” stamp of approval. The Works with Octopus badge highlights the seamless integration between the Givenergy battery range, and Octopus’ Energy tariffs. As the Givenergy home battery has a direct API link to Octopus and their energy prices, homeowners can take advantage of cheaper rates automatically.
What’s more, Givenergy are the only battery brand to be compatible with their new tariff Intelligent Octopus Flux. The new tariff is set to unlock the benefits of solar panels and battery storage, promising to provide additional savings of more than £450 per year. Intelligent Octopus Flux offers symmetrical rates for importing and exporting electricity, and as customers don’t have to manually programme their batteries to charge and discharge, they will benefit from the best rates for both the power they use (import) and the power they sell back (export) to the grid without any hassle.
Whilst Octopus Energy are talking about supporting other solar battery brands, for now the smart tariff only works with the Givenergy range of batteries, including the Givenergy AIO. Although the Tesla Powewall used to have it’s own energy tariff with Octopus Energy called the Tesla Energy Plan, in the past year Tesla have decided to retire the Tesla Energy Plan from the UK. Nevertheless, with Givenergy’s exclusive partnership with Octopus Energy we can suspect more benefits in the future.
